What is Rivers of Carbon?

Rivers of Carbon is a ‘people program’ that builds on years of scientific research into how river and riparian zones function, combined with landholder experience and practical management solutions.  We work with landholders who want to protect and restore rivers, creeks, billabongs and wetlands on their property, so that multiple benefits can be gained for both the environment and on-farm productivity.

The great news is that Rivers of Carbon has been funded to work with interested landholders in the Mulwaree and Wollondilly catchments.  Rivers of Carbon is managed by the not for profit Australian River Restoration Centre in partnership with Greening Australia and local Landcare Groups.  Our work in the Mulwaree and Wollondilly is being funded by Water New South Wales to protect the drinking water catchments of Sydney and surrounds.

What does Rivers of Carbon offer?

We will visit your property and work with you to develop a plan for your riparian area that may involve fencing, small-scale erosion works and revegetation.  Once we agree with you about what you want to achieve, and it fits within our Rivers of Carbon objectives, we will bring it together in a ten year Greening Australia Management Agreement that both parties sign.  These Agreements are straight forward, common sense and easy to follow.  We will then assist you in planning and undertaking the works.  We generally cover at least half of the costs involved in implementing the Management Agreement, with the landholder also contributing cash and in-kind support.

Yes, I want to get involved!

Terrific, we would be delighted to hear from you.  What you need to do now is to check the map to ensure you are within the Wollondilly and Mulwaree catchment.  If you are, complete the Expression of Interest form (scroll down) and send it to Lori Gould who will be the main contact for this project.  The Expression of Interest form is only one page, so it should not take you more than about half an hour to complete.  You can complete it on-line or print it out, scan it and email or post it back to Lori at the address below.
