World Fish Migration Day 2016: Connecting Fish, Rivers and People

World Fish Migration Day (WFMD) is coming up on the 21st of May this year. Although this is still a while away, we have been looking at our 2016 calendar and wanted to share some of the exciting things that are going to be happening.

Because Fish Can't Travel Like We Can - World Fish Migration DayWFMD is an international event aimed at raising global awareness about the need to restore river connections for migrating fish in order to achieve healthier fish stocks and more productive rivers. The event will also bring a greater understanding about the worldwide issues around migratory fish.

Unfortunately, barriers such as weirs, dams and sluices can block fish migration. When this occurs, fish stocks become depleted and this can degrade the health of rivers and marine ecosystems.

Details about events and ways to get involved are coming…. Follow us on social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn), subscribe to our newsletter or check in here on our Rivers of Carbon blog to keep up to date.
